A beautiful hotel, great location and very quiet. Close to town centre and efficient and helpful staff re car parking

  • Older travelers

The architecture and landscaping of this hotel are stunning. Hotel staff were very helpful.

The dining room was a bit disorganized. The food was good, but service was slow. OK for breakfast, but not for dinner.

  • Older travelers

First impressions were good. Beautiful building, reception rooms etc.

Restaurant did not live up to expectations in it's beautiful garden setting. Air con average in hot July. Shower rose faulty. Seemed overpriced compared to our next stop in the perigord in a chateau for much less

  • Older travelers

Everything was as it should be but somehow the hotel still seemed to dissapoint compared to the many others I stayed in of a similar rating during this holiday. Breakfast was poorly staffed and organised

  • Family with children
    7.0

Convenient to food outlets and sights.

It would be nice to have coffee/tea making facilities available in the room.

I liked the breakfast buffet and its tranquil atmosphere. My room was quiet and comfortably air-conditioned.

On Saturday, July 2, I left my room about 2 hours but in the afternoon. I left the sign hung at the door "do not disturb," but when I came back, someone clearly had come into my room - as my bed was made, trash was taken, things were straightened. I was stunned to find out that someone had come into my room while there was a "do not disturb" sign at the door. Fortunately, there was nothing missing from the room, but I left my computer open and to think that what could have happened to my belongings scares me. I went to speak to the front desk and the guy apologized saying normally things like this should not happen. As there was no stolen item, I did not press further. But the lack of respect for the privacy of the client is not what I expected from the hotel.

    Great location, wonderful surroundings

The a/c did not work correctly and the room was quite warm and uncomfortable the lack of windows did allow for air circulation. The hotel staff knew it was a problem, it was to be replaced next month. So if it a known problem, why use the room, we were quite disappointed with the hotel

    Location to centre of Avignon

Price - far too expensive for what we received, and that was discounted. Euro 175 per night excluding parking (12 euro) and breakfast (16 euros p/p). Not worth the expense. Room also had an odour that was not very pleasant. Had to change room on check in as room offered was not acceptable. Also felt having a workman working on the restaurant during breakfast was also unacceptable (why not start at 10am when breakfast is finished), as was dirty juice glasses and coffee cups - not what I expect from a hotel that proports to be 4 star!

  • Group of friends
    5.0

The only thing good about the hotel was the building.

They have given us the worst rooms. There were no porter to carry the luggages. Since we were in a split floor room with a steep stair. We had a hard time up and down. The air conditioner was not running properly, the room had a bad smell and it was stuffy.

  • Couple
    9.6

Easy to walk to all the historical sites in Avignon without being in the middle of the noise of tour groups, etc. at the Palais des Papes. Funky room, although not exactly what we were expecting (2 stories with bathroom down stairs, low ceiling with beams at just about my head height), it worked quite nicely for us.

the ceiling in our room was a bit low and the room was uniquely situated and shaped....not the fancy rooms they advertise on the site for the Booked.net economy crowd!

  • Couple
    6.2

Location is great - inside the city walls and a short walk to papal palace. Parking facility is convenient. Manager of the hotel carried our bags to the car because he didn't have a porter in the morning and refused a tip.

Rooms dont feel 4 star-ish. We arrived late at night and there was no one to take our bags to the room. They had no adapters to give us for non-Euro plugins. Room service is very slow. Breakfast is pretty expensive.

  • Older travelers
    4.2

The hotel does not deserve the four star rating. The room was very small, was poorly designed and was massively overpriced. It had been suggested by a restaurant proprietor but she had not actually seen the room. I have now described it to her. To charge 16euro extra per person for breakfast seemed high.

  • Older travelers
    9.6

the history of the buidling, being in an original cloitre

the shower was silly, curtains only so the water ended up all over the floor

  • Single

The hotel, a converted convent with a magnificent inner courtyard, is conveniently located within the Avignon city centre but a ten-minute walk away from the crowded Place de l'Horloge, hence rather quiet: excellent for those who enjoy city trips in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The hotel has two main wings, the old convent and a contemporary wing: the room I was assigned was in the old convent wing, immediately under the roof. The room had the typical constraints of any such rooms: no real view (beside the lovely blue of the sky of Provence!) and occasional akward set-up. In my case, the shower (cold and hot water, to be mixed as needed), despite the appreciable absence of a plastic "rideau", was located so as to force you to either properly stand (and wash the bathroom) or slightly bend your back (and keep the bathroom dry). Unconvenient. The actual sleeping area was separated from the bathroom by a low wall and the toilet located separately within the room: no complaints. I did not try the buffet breakafst (served along one of the corridors siding the inner courtyard) but the price seemed a bit too high. Overall, despite the excellent location, a bit of an expensive choice.

  • Older travelers
    7.4

The hotel has been sympathetically refurbished within old cloisters within the city walls of the beautiful city of Avignon. At first the minimalist approach to the 'new' accommodation was not to our liking but we soon accepted the almost 'Japanese' zen like furnishings. The dining room had a limited yet excellent menu which was well presented and good value for money by comparison with other restaurants in the city.

This undoubted quality hotel needs better management 'by walking about'. The hot water system had a fault of some sort as the first baths that we ran had water that looked as though it was rusty (not the cold supply); I advised the front desk whereupon I was told I was the only one to mention it; though no apparent concern for the fact! I was offered two other rooms, with the same experience, so we kept out original as it saved re-packing and moving. At breakfast the scrambled eggs were finished and never re-filled. The coffee cups were unclean but still put in place on the table, again I pointed this out to astonishment from the Maitre D. but no apology nor apparent concern for the guest. This is not good enough for a quality hotel charging 'top-dollar'. I sincerely hope they take note and improve as we would be happy to take the risk and stay again.
